Shimmer Women's Ministry
The Shimmer vision, Inspiring women to reflect the heart of God and releasing his radiance, beauty and power in our lives to change our world, was birthed in 2001, and stands strongly beside our Pittwater Uniting Church vision of leading people to maturity in Jesus Christ. In doing that we are committed to a holistic approach that includes:
- Our inner life (developing intimacy in our relationship with God) Ephesians 3:16,17
- Our body life (authentic relationships with each other) 1 Corinthians 12:12 ff
- Our global life (reaching out to others – evangelism/mission) Js 2:14, Matthew 25:40
As a team we have sought to plan and provide events and programs to uphold those aims, by responding to the needs of women in our church and the wider community. We now hold an annual retreat, an annual conference, support playgroups in our church and a single mums group called Flamingos. In 2008 we launched an emag called Shimmer Life which is published quarterly, and have established a partner project in Zimbabwe called Esandleni sothando which is helping to provide education and care for girls who are orphaned or in great need. At the beginning of 2009, we introduced MOPS, an intentional outreach program for Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) in our community, into our church program.
