Issue three: Firepower

Do you believe God raises the dead, heals the sick, provides needs, speaks through His spirit, answers prayer, protects His people and defeats evil?

Sometimes when we have our eyes fixed on our problems it's difficult to believe the supernatural side of God. Sometimes prayers seems a waste of time and effort. We give in. Falling into despair, we seek help from our friends and family first instead of going to our faithful God who owns the universe. We need to believe God at His word. He does have the power to heal and do all those things listed above. Isn't that wild?

How many of us believe all that is in the Bible, honestly? Would you stake your life on it? In our culture we rarely risk our lifestyle, our money or our reputation to follow the wild, untrodden paths. We seek comfort and pleasure at the expense of the great God adventure. Some are forced on this adventure, not by choice but by circumstance. The more desperate you are the more God seems to intervene. Risky stuff but powerful stuff.

My hunch is that if we gave God the attention and the time He deserves, we would hear, we would see His power alive in us and our world. It is often the people who spend hours praying that have all those amazing encounters. And it's not for the sake of a supernatural experience, I am sure all of us desire to know God's plans for us. We all want healing and a word from God is like medicine.

To take God at His word takes time and sacrifice. It's not something we want to hear. I know I don't. I often want a quick God fix in my day so that everything and everyone is covered. There is something wrong with our culture when we don't have time to sit and be with our God. If we can't find a chunk of time to sit and rest and listen, then something is wrong. It means that He is down our list of priorities. It's a challenge that we ought to take very seriously. Is money first? or even family? or work? or pleasure? If you were honest and wrote them down, where would He come?

God wants to bless you. He wants to listen to you and heal you. He wants to show you His plan for your life that is GOOD (it's in the Bible!!!). We just need to show up, cry, ask, receive, and trust that His eyes see all, His hand is covering us and His love is real.
